Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

So many today are afraid of loving Mary too much, of being accused of not being centered in Christ. This danger does not exist when we honor Mary as an adorer of Jesus. Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, a Christocentric title in name and theology, keeps us safely in Jesus through Mary, adoring in spirit and truth.

A genuinely Eucharistic spirituality is intrinsically linked to Our Lady. Saint Peter Julian Eymard walked with her throughout his life. This saint, who, as a boy, ran from home to press his ear against the tabernacle door, pressed his heart against the heart of Mary, the first Tabernacle, and found his forever home.

“Jesus stays with Mary. To adore and serve him, you need not go elsewhere. He lives with her, in his mother’s house. There, he is a king, the God of the heart. Love Mary, and adoration will be well done, and Jesus well served.” (Eymard, Paris, July 31, 1859)

“The first broken link was reconnected to the throne of God by the most Blessed Virgin, because whoever is in Christ is a new creation, says St. Paul. These links are hearts; it was only right that this link be so pure and holy that God could look at it with complacency in his good and holy Mother.” (Eymard, Paris, Wednesday, November 19, 1862)

What happens when we consecrate our lives to Jesus through Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament? We find Our Eucharistic Lord hidden in her Immaculate Heart.

“Meditate on what she was doing and how our Lord received her adorations. May you see these two hearts perfectly united. You yourselves must lift the veil; I cannot do that.” (Eymard, Paris, Tuesday, April 30, 1861)

…and his mother kept all these things in her heart. (Luke 2:51)

Let us pray:

“O my good Mother, since you agree to become my teacher, you will let me adore Jesus with you, bless Jesus with your praises, entreat Jesus with your prayers, serve Jesus with your hands, love Jesus with your heart, glorify Jesus with your sanctity…. Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Mother and Model of Adorers, pray for us who have recourse to thee!” (Excerpt from Consecration to Jesus through Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament)
