Feast of Saint Andrew, Apostle
We all know that Saint Andrew was a close confidant of the Lord and was present for many of the Lord’s works and ministry.
Interestingly, in the Gospel of Matthew, when Jesus saw Simon and Andrew and called them, they left their nets at once. It was a manifestation of their immediate response to the invitation of Jesus. They embraced a bold proclamation of their interest in the mission of Jesus. We can only imagine how their lives were turned upside down. What a fantastic response!
How many of us would leave everything behind to follow Jesus like Andrew, Simon, the two sons of Zebedee? How many of us will sacrifice our time, intelligence, money, resources, connections, etc., for God’s kingdom?
In the moment of trial, difficulties, and challenges, we must not be easily disheartened by setbacks and sufferings. God will be with us and will be by our side.
We do not need to be afraid to stand up for our Christian faith and beliefs, but we should inspire one another not just with words but through genuine actions and commitment in our daily lives.
Let us all entrust ourselves to the Lord and his providence and remember the faith and courage with which Saint Andrew has labored hard for the glory of God.
How am I going to respond to the call of Jesus? Am I willing to commit to follow the Lord and do his will every day?
Let Us Pray:
Loving Father, grant us the grace that we may always do your will and follow your invitation each day like Saint Andrew. Help us to be a living witness of your word so that our lives may become true channels of your grace for others. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
