Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord
Gabriel spoke, and Mary said, “Yes.” Mary, the Immaculate Conception, spoke, and Bernadette said, “Yes.” The children of Medugorje said, “Yes.” Each received personal assignments that God the Father wanted done.
Mary, becoming the mother of Jesus, gives her the task of raising Jesus and, with Joseph’s help, teaches Jesus to grow, interact with others, and learn what he could do as he grew into his calling. Bernadette’s yes led to her being instrumental in having a church built. The children of Medugorje remind everyone that hope is with us. Peter Julian climbs on the altar, sits next to the tabernacle, and follows his heart, responding to his vocation. Each of us has received a calling inviting our “yes,” enabling us to respond to what God asks.
Today, remembering Mary’s response, we approach the priest or the communion minister who says, “The Body of Christ,” and answer, “Amen,” so be it. – this is our Annunciation experience. We also acknowledge that we are each others’ support system and have an assignment we embrace and share. As we celebrate this feast of the Annunciation, we remember the past and commit to the future.
Let us pray:
Pour forth we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts that we, who receive in our hearts the words of an angel, may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
