Today’s reflection is on the Gospel of Mark 10:13-16. What does it mean to accept the Kingdom of God like a child? Remember when you were a child, you believed your mom and dad when they told you something? For example, don’t touch that plate; it is very hot. Or don’t play in the street; you might get hit by a car. You also trusted your mom and dad when they told you something important. For example, you can only brush the teeth you want to keep. Or work hard; it will pay off some day. We also followed our mom and dad when they led us somewhere. We followed them down the street on a walk or held their hand when we were in a store or crossing the street.
So too this also applies to our relationship with our heavenly Father…we are to believe like a child, trust like a child, and follow like a child.
I remember vividly the time in 3rd grade I took a shortcut home from school and did not go the way my mom and dad showed me to go. I thought I knew better than them. When I finally got home after my brother did, it was painful. God wants us to be dependent on him, not independent. As I look over my life, I see clearly that every time I didn’t believe God, I didn’t trust God, and every time I didn’t follow God, I struggled, stumbled, messed up, and sinned.
In a letter to Mr. Rosemberg in March 1862, Father Eymard said… “Let us lovingly surrender to him our worries of the future, forgiveness of the past, and walk under the beautiful sun of his grace.”
Let Us Pray:
Dear heavenly Father, please continue to give us the wisdom and strength to believe you, trust and follow you. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
