Memorial of Saint Bridget
Here are my mother and relatives.
The Church in Sweden celebrates Saint Bridget, a family woman who became a religious. She is a perfect example of how we can relate to Jesus to the point of being relatives. In her marriage, she started living a monastic life with her husband. After the death of her husband, she founded a monastery to allow her to get even closer to the will of God. Her apostolate explains the will of God: intense prayer even for the Holy Father, ministering to the poor and rich, and several pilgrimages. This is what makes us brothers and sisters of Jesus.
At first sight of this text, it sounds normal to feel a sentiment of denial and abandonment from Jesus towards his family. But to us who, from time to time, have always admired the fiat of Mary, we then realize that this statement is a call for us to emulate the biological relatives of Jesus. They have always exhibited the will of God through their humility and silence of heart. Through their hard work and prayer. Through their love and unity as a family. Since most of us can share in the same cup of the blood of Christ, may we rejoice in our relation to Christ through our behavior. As it is written in John 13:35, By this, all will recognize that you are my disciples…
Let us pray:
Father, may you be glorified in your saints, especially Bridget, who we celebrate today. She is a model for those who would love to do your will. She is truly a sister to your Son, our lord Jesus Christ, and a daughter to you. We pray, Father, that, like her, we might put more action into our faith to win your Son’s closeness. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
