Memorial of the Queenship of Mary

The Gospels often present us with parables about banquets. We always like a good story and wonder where it leads. Spontaneously, we want to connect this parable with the Eucharist, the most extraordinary banquet of all.

What is particularly interesting is that all are invited, but surprisingly, not All accept. People have other priorities. Hmm. Does that sound familiar? What is more surprising is that all who receive it are not accepted. Hmm. They are not meeting the standards. Well then, what can the standards be?

This is even more intriguing. The garment. What is it? Perhaps we can find some clues in the letter to the Ephesians when Saint Paul describes the garment that all Christians should wear. “Clothe yourselves with the new self (Ephesians 4:22)….or another: Clothe yourselves with heartfelt mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.., forgive one another….and over all these things put on love. (Colossians.3:12) Hmm.

A great examen of conscience. Welcome to the banquet.

Prayer:

Mary, our Mother, as we mark the memorial of your Queenship, just as you saved the day at the Cana wedding, help us to prepare for Holy Communion and obtain for us to be clothed with the garment of Christ life as we approach the eternal banquet. Amen.
