Daily Eucharistic Reflections

September 17, 2024

Today’s reading from 1st Corinthians reminds us that we are part of the Body of Christ. We all have our specific part to play as part of the Body of Christ. How do we know what our part is? I saw a possible answer to this question in Father Paul Bernier SSS’s book “Eucharist, Celebrating Its Rhythms in Our Lives.” “The Eucharist is not something we receive but something we do.”

From the moment the host touches our tongue, and the cup pours the blood of Christ into our throat, God is feeding our souls. Now, we must do our part in giving our whole body and heart over to the life-giving Christ.

Our gifts for the Kingdom of God are shrouded in mystery. Every day, we make small decisions that lead us down the path of God’s will for us. We need to be fed by the Eucharist to make the right decisions in the small things to be fruitful in the decisions for the significant things. The things we desire may not be the same as what God desires.

In my life, I desired to be an engineer, and it seemed God was with me, but I am beginning to see that the non-technical skills I learned in the profession play a prominent role in the various ministries I am in now.

When you read about the life of Saint Peter Julian Eymard, it is easy to see that it was not a straight path, as he put it, “a little like Jacob, always on a journey” to describe his life and finding God’s will for him as part of the body of Christ.

Prayer:

Lord of the Dance, you invite us to enter into the Dance. May you lead us all in the Dance as we follow you to the Kingdom. Amen.
