Our scripture from Galatians is one of hope and promise! The gift of faith in Jesus fulfills the promise of eternal life. We believe Jesus came to show us the way, forgive sin, and lead us to the Father.
It seems obscure to think of ourselves as descendants of Abraham. It was so long ago – countless generations have passed! Abraham had unwavering faith as he obeyed the Father and journeyed to an unknown land to become the founder of a new nation. His faith was so uncompromising that he was willing to sacrifice his son at the command of God. However, the Father showed His overwhelming love by sparing his son. That story has constantly challenged me, and I dare say I couldn’t have been as obedient and trusting as Abraham was!
We further learn we are no longer slaves of the law but rather disciples of love led by Jesus Christ. Luke’s Gospel proclaims the depth and critical importance of God’s Word. One of my favorite parts of our Mass is when Father elevates the Lectionary, and we sing our song of praise. As we listen carefully, we hear words speaking God’s message as the words take root in our hearts. As disciples, we vow to live those words as we walk into a world with many challenges.
Today’s psalm also speaks a hopeful message, “…rejoice, O hearts that seek the Lord!’ However, how do we seek the Lord? Do we seek Him through prayer and scripture? Can we see him in the sky, the sun, the moon, the flowers, the trees? Can we see him in the eyes of others? Can we see him in the poor, the lonely, the sick? We CAN see beyond and maybe even glimpse Heaven through our faith in Christ.
Prayer:
Loving Father, thank you for your forever love. Thank you for the gift of faith.
Thank you for every breath I take. Help me today to live the life you have given me in service to you. May I always show your love and be willing to give of myself to my family
and to all those you place before me today. Amen.
