Daily Eucharistic Reflections

November 23, 2024

Jesus does not hide truth from those who seek truth. Our Lord Jesus is not a God of confusion but a God who wants us to spend eternity with him. Even my five-year-old grandson knows that Jesus loves him and died for him.

In today’s Gospel, we read Luke 20:35-38, in which Jesus couples the New Testament saints with the Old Testament saints as those in heaven. In verse 35, Jesus speaks of those deemed worthy to attain the coming age and the resurrection of the dead. How are we considered worthy? We know the answer is through Jesus’ shed blood on the cross.

But then, how is Jesus speaking of Moses’ statement that our Lord is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob (present tense)? We know from the Bible and from history that these three men are dead. These three men also believed in the coming of the Messiah, the Christ. Therefore, they, too, are with Jesus for eternity.

The word “believe” appears about 69 times in the Gospel of John. It always refers to Jesus.

Father Eymard says it simply: “May Jesus be adored, loved, and served; the rest is nothing.” (Taken from A Year With Fr. Eymard by Father Erasto Fernandez SSS)

Let Us Pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, help us all believe in your son Jesus. For in the end this is all that matters. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
