Daily Eucharistic Reflections

January 14, 2025

“…What is man that you are mindful of him, or the son of man that you care for him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor, subjecting all things under his feet…” (Hebrews 2:6-8)

Who are we for our Lord to humble himself, living and dying as a human person for our redemption, rising from the dead, to open the gates of Heaven? We are the beloved of the Father, the beholden to Christ, the bearers of the Holy Spirit. We are the recipients of God’s eternal love and have received it entirely and without cost. And after all of this, what is asked of us? Nothing more than faith and just obedience in following His commandments. Just obedience, with love, to the One who has our best interests at heart in the first place.

But obedience is hard for us because we often think we know better than even God. “Let’s do it my way instead,” we often say because it is easier for us, yet that is not the call.

“…any superior to whom God has given authority over you, stands in the place of God: ‘Whoever listens to you listens to me’ (cf. Luke 10:16). Whenever you perform any deed out of obedience, you are fulfilling God’s will. Direct your obedience to God himself, who is listening. Since you cannot see him, you act out of faith in the authority he has given, which makes your obedience meritorious.” (Saint Peter Julian Eymard)

May we be able to grow in our humility, faith, trust, love, and just obedience that our Lord may say this about us:

“I will proclaim your name to my brethren, in the midst of the assembly I will praise you.” (Hebrews 2:12)

Let us Pray:

Lord, help us accept your commandments and live our lives in obedience to your Divine Will for us. Help us to grow in humility, love, faith, trust, and compassion. May we be indeed your Holy people. Amen.
