Now is the day of salvation, brothers and sisters. And yet the age-old question remains, “How do we gain salvation?” We do not gain salvation on our own – it is only in Jesus Christ that salvation can be ours!
This seems to be one of the most challenging things to answer on our journey in life. Yet the path has been revealed to us in Scripture. The Gospel reading for today describes many of the Ten Commandments. We know we must follow God’s laws, yet we always seem to fall short.
Thankfully, he has also given us the love and grace of the sacrament of reconciliation, in which we can ask for forgiveness from God and the Church. Herein, we can receive many graces, which help us avoid sin and be made stronger.
We seek to know love and strive for eternal salvation through, with, and in Jesus Christ. By giving ourselves to Christ, humbling our needs and wants, and receiving him as the Eucharist. Saint Eymard tells us that we receive the virtue of strength in the fruit of Eucharistic contemplation and Communion.
This is precisely what we need to combat our sins. The Eucharist is the food we need to bring us into union with Jesus Christ. It gives us the strength to combat our sins and sinful thoughts. Without this precious gift of His body and blood, how would we ever be able to enter the Kingdom of God? Have you recently taken advantage of these two beautiful sacraments?
Let Us Pray:
Lord, be a constant reminder to seek your love and grace in the sacraments of Holy Communion so that we may become worthy of the kingdom you have prepared for us.
