The readings remind us of our reason for having life: glorifying God and spreading Jesus’ message. They remind us that Jesus fulfilled a mission for you, me, and all humankind. He died for all, He rose for all, He opened the gate of Heaven so all who believe in Him and repent for their sins will be blessed by God’s mercy and have the fulfilled promise of eternal life.
The Psalm reminds us of God’s limitless kindness and mercy, “…for as the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is his kindness toward those who fear him.” Can we possibly fathom the love that God has for us?
The Gospel leads us: “How often have we said, ‘I swear to God’ when trying to assure someone of our sincerity and truth? However, Jesus said, “Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’” Jesus clarifies it – proclaim the truth all the time.
We proclaim, “Jesus is the truth and the life.” When believing what Jesus taught us, we are obligated to be ambassadors of that truth throughout our lifetime on earth. By living the Gospel, we become God’s beacon of love, light, peace, and hope for a world in need today.
Let us be inspired by the words of Saint Peter Julian Eymard in his letter to Mrs. Lepage, “Remain always an apostle of the God of the Eucharist; it’s a mission of fire near those who are cold, of light for those who do not believe, of holiness for the soul of the adorer. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35).
Prayer:
Loving and Merciful Father, thank you for the gift of my life and for all the blessings you have granted me. May you walk in front of me today and lead me to those you may bless with your love through a smile, a word of hope, a helping hand, or a generous gesture. Amen.
