Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

I have much more to tell you. This phrase from today’s gospel struck me. I find that the older I get, the more I need to share as much as possible with my children and grandchildren. My youngest granddaughter is very receptive to hearing what I have to say. She is caught in the middle of a conflict between her mother and older sister. She reached out to me for advice, and I suggested that she not become the telephone operator. She did not get it, so I replied, “Don’t be the mediator, listen, love them both, and use your words wisely.”

Our first reading from Proverbs establishes that wisdom, like Jesus, was present when the earth was formed. Vivid with imagery, we hear of the relationship between wisdom and God himself.

In the second reading, we hear of the works of all three persons of the Trinity. Through the works of God the Son, Saint Paul writes that we have peace with God and by our faith we have gained access to the grace of God the Father. As Jesus continues to work in us, we deepen our relationship with God the Father, allowing His blessings to grow, and we become people of hope. Through the Holy Spirit, the love of God has been poured into our hearts.

In the gospel, Jesus has much to share, yet he knows that the disciples cannot bear the truth of what is coming. He promises them the Spirit, who will guide them to the truth, whose words will not be his own but God the Father speaking through the Spirit, as God the Father spoke through Jesus. God the Father shares all words and wisdom with the Son and the Spirit. Today, as the Spirit continues to speak to our hearts and minds, the boundless truth of God pours forth. What words of wisdom will you share today?

Let us pray:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever will be. Amen.
