Closer Than You Think
Some things are just not in our reach: a mini vacation on the moon, racing a car in the Daytona 500, winning a championship at Wimbledon. Yet, we have so many good-life experiences that should not be taken for granted: family, friends, parishioners, clergy; then worked into these relationships we add walks on the beach, in the park, and time spent in adoration or meditation and prayer so true that we have taken trips to some very special places, but now just a good memory; whereas a real gift of life is always before us with people.
Spiritual power has a source. We get strength within ourselves, from everyone around us, and we all share in this grace from God, the source of it all. So, let’s go back to that walk on the beach or in the park; that fishing trip in Yellowstone National Park, or even kayaking on some quiet bay waters. Wait. It will come. No matter our geographical location, each setting orchestrates a symphonic awareness with a hint of God’s grace, and enough to take with us wherever we go and in whoever we meet.
Thus, when we come to Scripture and read, ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand,” rejoice and be glad. Pope Francis references from the book of Sirach, “Do not deprive yourself of the day’s enjoyment” (in The Joy of the Gospel).
Sometimes we just look in all the wrong places.
Prayer:
Bless the Lord, all you works of the Lord, praise and exalt him above all forever (Daniel 3:57)
