Daily Eucharistic Reflections

July 17, 2025

Jesus extends to all an invitation: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” What comforting words. What a loving offer. But, if we are not yet ready to respond to such an invitation, the good Master continues: “For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

Jesus doesn’t suggest that our lives will be easy or free of pain and struggle. Still, he assures us that by accepting his invitation and becoming a disciple—by following our Lord—we need not worry about our earthly journey. Unlike the Pharisees, who imposed impossible demands on people, Jesus offers a yoke that is light because He carries it with us. His invitation promises that he will always be by our side, always and everywhere, accompanying us to share our burdens of worldly trials and tribulations.

The Good Shepherd will care for us and be with us. If permitted, he is always ready and eager to fill us with his grace, his peace, and his unconditional love, and to gift us the strength we need to face whatever challenges may come our way. He demands nothing of us other than to accept his offer. Once we are ready to receive Jesus’ invitation, to surrender our will, our doubts, and our denial of the possibility of such an invitation, our response will bring a quiet mind, a peaceful soul, and a grateful heart.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I believe you are my God. I believe you are my Savior. I believe that you love me unconditionally and will always be at my side to guide me and comfort me through all my trials and tribulations. With your grace, may I live my life as if I do believe!
