“See how the Lord blesses those who fear him.”
To fear the Lord is not to be terrified of him but to recognize who the Lord is: God almighty, a holy God, sovereign over all creation, an all-loving God. So, we surrender our lives to him in love, obedience, and trust, living accordingly to the best of our ability; through the power of the Holy Spirit; to do his will.
When I was not a Christian, I would look at those who were Christian, not just church-goers like me, but those who really surrendered their lives to Jesus, and think they had something I didn’t have. I was after money, cars, and a house, which took a lot of my energy, thoughts, work, and time. I read the Wall Street Journal, Money magazine, Investor’s, Business Daily, and more. It was exhausting. By the time I retired as a residential real estate appraiser, I had been in over 30,000 homes.
The many Christians I met over those years had a peace, gentleness, and kindness about them, not an anxious spirit but a quiet, restful one. I didn’t know it at the time, but God allowed me to “See how the Lord blesses those who fear him.”
God does not begrudge our material things for all good things come from his loving hands, but he does want our hearts and our love, and in doing so, he blesses us with a joy and peace that is unimaginable. Surrender your life to Jesus today and “See how the Lord blesses you who fear him.”
Father Eymard writes in his letter to Miss Marguerite Guillot, October 1865: “If you need to economize your time, let it be for greater recollection and union with God.” (Taken from A Year With Fr. Eymard by Father Erasto Fernandez SSS)
Let Us Pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we love you, adore you, and praise you. We thank you for your patience with us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
