In the Gospel today, we find that death does not end the relationship God has with his people. When Moses stated that the Lord is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, he used present-tense language to show that God is the God of the living, a point highlighted by Jesus in this passage. This also indicates that these patriarchs are still alive and God continues to be their God.
As Christians who believe in Jesus and his resurrection, we will also rise from the dead and have a continuing relationship with him. Jesus is stating that relationships will be different and that concerns or upsets many people who love their family relations here on earth. The fear of the unknown brings concern and upsets many times into our lives.
One thing we do know is how much Jesus loves us. One of these days, we will no longer worry about what Jesus has in store for us, but will truly rest in him because of who He is and what he has done for us and all who love him.
Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and say Jesus, I love you, Jesus, I trust you. Guaranteed you will begin to smile.
Father Eymard stated to Mme Josephine Gourd, August 1867: “Here is my prescription: A head free of all worries, entirely given to the Will of God at every moment.” (Taken from A Year with Fr. Eymard by Fr. Erasto Fernandez, SSS.)
Let Us Pray:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for having a plan for my life, here on earth and after I pass into your loving arms. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
