Repairs

A plethora of ads tells us that there are people who will give us new gutters, new windows, a new roof, and better heating and air-conditioning units – at a cost. These repairs all contribute to making a house comfortable inside. As noted, a lot of things can go wrong with owning a house. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with just being human.

If we spread the house metaphor, we see how applicable it is to our lives. Fixing a house might just be easier, though more costly. Fixing ourselves comes with a bargain price tag, but not always an easy fix. Some repairs take a lifetime. The initiated who have somewhat conquered those unwanted behaviors seek solace and have found their way to the confessional and meeting with Christ on his terms. Through the Holy Spirit, bringing us to the gate, the portal to Christ, we keep our house in order.

Eymard, in his retreat notes, asks how Jesus will be revealed to him. He answers: The Holy Spirit within. Eymard’s answer is insightful. The Holy Spirit is within, and when recognized and acknowledged, we give to God a resounding ‘yes’ that we are listening lest we convert to the dark side.

Jesus warns against any denying of the Holy Spirit. It is through this gift of the Spirit that we are challenged to become Christ-like. After all, we share the same Spirit.

May the Spirit have a chance to work within us through scripture readings, liturgy, adoration, and meditation. Let the house repairs begin.

Prayer:

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. Oh, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy his consolations, through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
