Our words climb up with faith, and God’s word comes down with might.
As we begin our journey in the desert, we are confronted with this beautiful text from Isaiah, which speaks of the strength and effect of the Word of God. It comes down and accomplishes that which it intends. This text helps us better understand the gospel of Mathew as Jesus takes us to the school of prayer. We need to pray and pray with faith. Let the effect of the word of God be a result of our prayer.
The Lord’s prayer explains our relationship with God. We dare to call him a father. We are happy to always be precise in our prayers. We are learning to practice what we pray, for we cannot ask for what we cannot give. One who prays has a soft landing from both neighbors and God. They readily forgive others. They easily share their bread with the hungry. They easily realize those in need and come out to help.
In this desert experience, let us intensify our prayer, especially prayer before the blessed sacrament at the morning and evening offices. Saint Peter Julian Eymard shares that: The strength of man is in prayer. Prayer is the almighty power of man over God and through God. God made this the Law of his grace and the holiness of man. (PO 4, 7) In this, we shall happily await the word of God to take effect in us, the Children. This strengthens us that when his word comes down from heaven, it falls on his children.
Let Us Pray:
God, come to my assistance. Let my prayer before you, oh Lord, rise like incense. And my hands for the evening offering. We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
