Memorial of Saint Philip Neri, Priest
As we remember this great man, Philip Neri, a priest whose efforts were significant during the Counter-Reformation in the 16th century, we appreciate the theme of ordinary time more. Ordinary time is a time of spiritual growth. Living by the law of the Spirit. Saint Philip founded the Congregation of the Oratory, which dedicates its life to pastoral care and charitable work. I intend to use Saint Philip today to reignite in us the pastoral zeal in our church.
Dear fellow pastors, I never forget the joy our faithful feel whenever I am with them in any situation in life. JOY AND PAIN. It is very interesting to note that even those people from other denominations are surprisingly touched by our presence. Here in Uganda, society always calls itself to order whenever a Catholic priest or religious is present. As we struggle to build the Eucharistic kingdom, let us get out of our presbyteries and churches. Let us take the Church to the people: hospitals, prisons, homes, and even sports areas. Let the Eucharistic Kingdom have its first visible sign as PRESENCE of the pastors with the people.
Dear fellow pilgrims, still looking at the charism of Saint Philip Neri, we need to admire the aspect of charitable work. This is another way we meet Christ. Giving up our comfort zones for the sake of Christ not only brings Joy to the less advantaged but also gives us back a hundredfold.
Let us pray
Oh God, you instructed the hearts of thy faithful by the Light of your Holy Spirit. Grant us in the same Spirit that we may truly be wise and ever to rejoice in his consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
