Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

In today’s Gospel, Jesus reframes what it means to belong to God. Blessings are not inherited or earned because of who you are or what your status is, nor are they tied to physical relationships. Instead, Jesus says blessings are accessible to anyone who listens to God’s word and shapes their life around His teachings. In other words, He did not define who; he defined how.

Mary trusted in the Lord completely, and she humbly acted upon His request. Her “Yes” is true faith. She knew her life would be disrupted, yet she trusted. The humblest believer, when acting on God’s word, is put in high regard because God’s teaching is followed. Blessedness is not just a feeling; it is a way of living. Blessedness is not merely hearing God’s word but living it out in love, compassion, and unity. We are all connected, all members of one Body in Christ, all children of the same Father.

Living out the Eucharist, acting on God’s word and living with each other the way God wants us to, is Blessedness. Race, culture, background – none of these determine a person’s worth in God’s eyes. What truly matters is the heart that listens and responds. We are not “single” believers; we are members of one Body. What affects one affects all. To love God is to love His children – every single one of them. We must truly hear and listen to God’s teachings and put these into practice just as humbly as Mary did.

Jesus is saying that anyone — absolutely anyone — can enter into the deepest blessedness by aligning their life with God’s word. Do not hesitate when God calls you. Do not overcomplicate it. Do not overthink it. Just say yes.

Lord, give us the courage to live out your teachings with love, mercy, and compassion toward all our brothers and sisters. Help us to recognize suffering and confront injustices. Strengthen our hearts so we say “yes” to Your will.
