The Responsorial Psalm today focuses on Jesus and not our troubled circumstances of the day. So many times, we get it wrong by focusing on what is not working in our lives or by being troubled by trials, upsets, finances, family, and other issues, rather than looking to Jesus.

“Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days.”

“And may the gracious care of the Lord our God be ours…”

I read these words, and I smile; I am comforted. My wife and I have four married children and eight grandchildren, and we both come from fairly large families, so there’s plenty to pray for and about. If my wife and I sit around and ruminate over family struggles or issues, and we have done this, we sink. It doesn’t comfort us; it doesn’t solve anything to do this.

But when we focus on our Lord and his faithfulness, promises, and sovereignty, we are comforted; we find peace. Circumstances may not change, but we are trusting God in all things of life. Psalm 118:24 reads “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
