Daily Eucharistic Reflections

January 27, 2024

All the readings today can apply to us somehow, but the Alleluia contains the most quoted verse in all Scripture: John 3:16. Most of you know it by heart. There are several action words in this verse, but the one that requires movement on our part is the verb “believes.”

In the Gospel of John, the word “believe” or “believes” is used about 70 times and it is always a verb and is always about encouraging us to believe in Jesus. That is one of the significant points in John’s Gospel, showing us that Jesus is God and that he is our way to eternal life. Jesus states that himself in John 14:6, telling us that he is the way, the truth, and the life….!

For Roman Catholics and other Christian denominations, it is easy to understand why God would send his Son to be crucified and die on the cross for our sins, knowing we could not get to heaven on our own merits. Please read John 3:18.

All that being said, “Do you believe in Christ Jesus for your salvation?”

Father Eymard does the same in his writings: “…every soul wishing to live by Jesus Christ is necessarily meditative, contemplative, an adorer.” (A Year with Father Eymard)

Prayer:

Dear heavenly Father, please continue to draw humankind nearer and nearer to your heart. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
