Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

Here am I, Lord. I come to do your will. (Psalm 39)

These beautiful words of the psalmist introduce us to the spirituality of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is one of the principal actors in this text. Today, as we celebrate the Annunciation of the Lord, we have our eyes fixed on the mystery of the birth of Christ, which is nine months from today.

I Invite you though, to meditate upon the beautiful words of the psalmist that are deeply explained in the letter to the Hebrews 10:4-10. The Blessed Virgin presents to us a spirituality of total surrender to the will of God. When we hear the words of the Angel: ‘…for nothing is impossible with God.’ We enter the spirituality of Mary with zeal and enthusiasm.

This day is, therefore, a celebration of total surrender to the will of God. It reminds us that the biggest gift we can give God is the gift of ourselves. Just as Christ comes to give his body for the salvation of the world, we, too, must be ready to abandon ourselves to the will of God, which he might do with us. It is, therefore, not coincidental that this feast lies in the Lenten season. It is a season where we celebrate the total surrender of the will of the Son to his Father.

Therefore, may we be at the school of Jesus and Mary today, Thanking God for sending us his son but more so getting ready to surrender ourselves like Jesus and Mary to God’s will.

I love you, Jesus, my love above all things. I repent with all my heart for having offended you. Never permit me to separate myself from you again. Grant that I may love you always, then do with me what you will.
