Do we heed and listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and do we obey them?

Timothy and Paul are on their missionary trip through the Phrygian and Galatian territory, and the church is growing and being strengthened. Yet when they were headed towards the province of Asia, they were prevented by the Holy Spirit from preaching the message of Jesus there. Acts 16:7 goes on to state that the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go on into Bithynia.

I truly enjoy the days when the peace of Christ rules in my heart. Yes, there are days when I allow the circumstances of the day and the ways of the world to rule in my heart. Why the difference? The Bible is full of examples of men and women who have taken their focus off Jesus and have stumbled or have been frustrated in life’s circumstances. The key is to slow down and be aware that God is with us and guiding us at all times. He will never leave us or forsake us.

Take a moment to read John 16:13, John 14:26, and Galatians 5:18. The Holy Spirit is always present throughout the day, guiding, leading, and prompting. God never tries to trip us up or make us stumble.

In a letter from Father Eymard to Countess Adele de Revel dated January 1867: Surrender to the fatherly Providence which has always watched over you so caringly and has guided you so well in your duties and in finding trust. (Taken from A Year with Father Eymard by Father Erasto Fernandez SSS).

Let Us Pray:

Dear heavenly Father, through Christ our Lord and the promptings of the Holy Spirit, may we hear, listen to, and obey you throughout our day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
