Commemoration of the Beatification of Peter Julian Eymard (1925)
Today, let us ponder the Gospel’s words: “What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light.” When does God speak to us in the darkness? Perhaps it is when we end our day in prayer. However, often we are the ones speaking, but do we also take time to listen? We ponder our day, our failings, our worries and fears, we repent and talk to our Father. Listening can be a challenging process when our minds are overwhelmed by turmoil.
We fear for our world, lacking the united peace of God. So many have gone before us in endless discord, disputes, and wars, all seeking their agendas. Let us always be consoled and remember that God is the true light of love, hope, and peace. We must speak not only the words, but through actions of love, hope, and peace to all we encounter.
Today, we celebrate Pope Pius XI’s beatification of Saint Peter Julian Eymard, also known as the “Apostle of the Eucharist.” His vision intensely increased the Church’s devotion to the Eucharist. Saint Eymard said, “The Holy Eucharist is like a divine Storehouse filled with every virtue; God has placed it in the world so that everyone one may draw from it.”
In 1856, Saint Peter Julian Eymard founded the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in Paris, and the congregation continues to exist worldwide today. With profound gratitude, we thank our Lord for him and pray for his intercession that we always recognize the answer to the desire to deepen our spiritual growth is through the Eucharist.
Let us rejoice through the words of our Psalm: “Give thanks to the LORD, invoke his name; make known among the nations his deeds. “Sing to him, sing his praise, proclaim all his wondrous deeds.”
Let Us Pray:
Dear Lord, Our God: We rejoice and give you thanks for having given us your Son, Jesus, to lead us to our heavenly home one day with you. We believe that your presence in the Holy Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Jesus, providing the nourishment we rely on to give us the strength to follow the path to salvation through your perfect love, hope, and peace. We ask the intercession of Saint Peter Julian Eymard, that he may help us to follow his mission of bringing you to the world. Amen.
