Saturday in the Octave of Easter

On a hot, dusty day in 1922, in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt, a 12-year-old boy, just a water carrier, was going about his simple task when something caught his eye – a stone step, barely visible beneath the sand. He uncovered the first clue to the tomb of Tutankhamun, a treasure hidden for 3,000 years. Imagine it: a child, performing the most ordinary of duties, revealing something extraordinary.

Isn’t that just how God works? He takes the small, the humble, the overlooked, and through them, he reveals his greatest treasures. God’s love is always there, always present, but like that buried step, it’s often hidden beneath the sands of our busy lives. And yet, when we stop, when we look, when we open hearts, we find it – his grace, his mercy, his love.

Unlike King Tut’s tomb, sealed and forgotten, the tomb of our Risen King, Jesus Christ, was left open for all to see. “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone” (Psalm 118:22). That open tomb is a message, a promise, a beacon of hope. It tells us that death is not the end, that love triumphs, and that God’s presence is with us always.

St. Peter Julian Eymard once said, “Eucharist is the supreme proof of the love of Jesus.” Think about that. In the bread and wine, Christ humbles himself to be with us. Do we recognize him in ordinary moments of our lives? Or are we too distracted, too hurried to notice the treasures he places before us?

This Easter, let us pause. Let us look. Let us give thanks. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). Like that boy in the desert, may we uncover the treasures of God’s grace and proclaim his goodness to the world.

Let Us Pray:

Heavenly Father, give me the strength to keep praying. I don’t want to quit. I believe that miracles happen every day, so I never want to stop believing, stop seeking your kingdom. I know that God can change things very quickly in my life, and in the lives of those whom I raise up to you, my God. Amen.
