Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
Chosen
Who’s the hottest commodity of stage and screen? Maybe it’s someone who walked off with an Emmy or a Tony Award. Then there’s a plethora of Grammy Awards and Golden Globe Awards. So, maybe your subscription to a pop culture magazine has expired, and you have no idea who these winners are. Surely, some men and women stand out above others, and we associate ourselves with them. They have qualities we think we have or qualities we admire, perhaps to imitate.
So, here we are, celebrating and remembering two great men who were intent on bringing anyone and everyone to Christ.
Paul met Jesus on that fateful road to Damascus. Up to that point, Paul was on a mission to round up those who believed in Jesus to persecute them, but then he encountered Christ in a blinding light, and the rest is history. Sometimes we need to be knocked off our horse because we are heading in the wrong direction. We may not experience Jesus as a bright, shining light, but we have Scripture in which we hear his words.
Then there’s the fisherman who becomes a rock on whom a Church will be built. We may not be a rock like our saint, but it’s amazing what can be done with a lot of stones.
Prayer:
Glorify the LORD with me, let us together extol his name. I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4-5)
