As I read the Epistle and Gospel of the day, I think of anyone living on earth today and ask myself: What are people really after? What do they want in this life?
We chase many things and go after much that does not satisfy for very long. Yet today’s readings give us an answer that sustains us, comforts us, and holds us here and into eternity. “We hold this treasure in earthen vessels…”
The earthen vessel is our bodies, which Jesus Christ indwells through the power of the Holy Spirit, as believers in the resurrected Christ, as Saint Paul states in his letter to the Corinthian church. “…so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body.” Saint Paul repeats again, “…so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.”
By our complete commitment to Christ, he reaches out to others through us. The challenge today and every day is can I live out my Eucharistic life that our Lord has set before me and in me?
Father Eymard stated, “However, in these difficult moments, we must pray, suffer in silence, make good use of humiliations, and wait patiently for God’s time. The good Lord always blesses the cross which is carried for him.” (Taken from A Year with Fr. Eymard by Fr. Erasto Fernandez SSS).

Dear heavenly Father, we thank you for giving us your Son as a sacrifice, showing us how to love others as you have loved us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
