Daily Eucharistic Reflections

Where did he go? Why did he leave? Who wanted to kill him? The Pharisees? But… they are supposed to be men of God. I don’t understand…Jesus… wait for me! I want to come with you!!

The ugliness of humans can be found even in those who claim to be men and women of God.

With a mere gesture, Jesus had the power to transform everything. He could have stayed and softened the hearts of the Pharisees, opening their eyes to the divine truth God intended through his Son. Yet, he removed himself from the situation, and it was those who chose to follow him who found healing.

When we act with integrity, we provide a model, an example from the Eucharist, to follow so that genuine, humble love for all others can foster peace.

Jesus very often crossed social, cultural, and religious boundaries. He dined with tax collectors, defended those who were judged by society, healed Jews and non-Jews, and spoke to people considered outsiders in his time. Jesus taught us to “love your neighbor as yourself.” This teaching reveals an acceptance that is not about agreeing with everyone, but rather choosing to respond with empathy and dignity.

Jesus did not just preach tolerance; he modeled love in action. Every day, the Eucharist reminds us of our relationship with God, which should not be solely personal. Our relationship with God needs to broaden to encompass respect for all people. Jesus accepted the “marginalized” people of his time. We must open our hearts and welcome everyone, not just those we deem worthy of our attention.

Let Us Pray:

Dear Jesus, help us remember that we are all part of the Body of Christ. Let us always remember that every human being is a creation of yours.
